Because I have an aversion to throwing things away, especially clothes, and because I know how to, I have always mended my clothes.

A few years ago I was introduced to kintsukoroi, then introduced as wabi-sabi or the Japanese idea of accepting and loving imperfection. This of course immediately resonated with my nostalgia and reluctance to discard of things that hold memories. I have always been a sucker for the teddy with the mismatched ears and lopsided smile…

In honor of this lovely Japanese philosophy started mending my clothes with gold thread instead of the normal matching color and since I am also a huge fan of knits and knitting, this immediately turned into very pretty darned patches in my clothes.

Now if I could only convince my partner to let me mend his clothes with gold thread too…
